The Kalachakra Mandala is a complex “map” of a sacred palace containing 722 deities. It is used to transform the environment and bring peace to the household. Every gate, wall, and circle in this painting has a specific philosophical meaning, representing the elements and the various stages of mental purification.

• About the Painting & Process: Drawing a Mandala requires incredible mathematical precision. The artist uses a compass and ruler to lay out the concentric circles and squares before applying any color. The painting is done from the center outward, following a strict ritual order that ensures the spiritual integrity of the geometry remains intact.

• Colours & Materials: This Thangka uses a full spectrum of natural pigments—yellow from orpiment, blue from lapis lazuli, and red from cinnabar. Extensive 24K gold is applied to the “palace walls” to represent the radiance of the enlightened state.
